Clothes folded and put away in the closet, bags packed with the charms she’d recharged and the no-see-um spells she’d created, Rowan relaxed against the pillows on the bed, the TV on in the background. She sipped a cup of tea and took a moment to appreciate her work. A soft knock at the door had her on her feet in seconds. She wasn’t sure she’d heard it at first, but then they knocked again.

“Who is it?” Rowan asked.

“A friend,” the male voice replied. “You’re in danger, little witch. I’m here to help get you to safety.”
