Fate or Destiny - Chapter Six
The air outside was ripe with the scent of fallen leaves and a hint of woodsmoke. The trees were a mix of evergreens and bright yellow, red, and orange deciduous trees in full autumn glory. A woman and two young boys tended a garden plot in front of a small house in the far corner of the grassy open space, and Remi waved as they followed a path that led from the back door, across a stone patio, and over to a gravel area with a few vehicles parked and two barns that opened onto the space.
Where leaves had fallen, glimpses of other small homes and cottages could be seen through the trees. Rowan looked over at Remi and pointed to some of the houses. “How many people live here?”
“The compound houses nearly ninety percent of the pack. Some live closer to the city for work, but most are here. Shifters are pack animals and we don’t do well without others of our kind around us.”
