The sound of sirens filled the air as Rowan clutched the stuffed rabbit to her chest and gulped breaths of air. Her mind froze for a precious few seconds, then she shook herself and started to move. First she peeled off her uniform and tossed it in the hamper, then pulled on jeans, boots, a sweater, and her favorite leather jacket. She packed quickly, taking clothes, toiletries, the stash of money the sisters had shared, the collection of magical charms they’d made, a couple of photos, and Juni’s BunBun. Rowan went into several of her friend’s rooms and helped herself to cash, some food, and the keys to Asher’s car. All of it stuffed into a couple of canvas travel bags and her backpack. It’d take a while for them to realize who was gone, and by then, she’d be far away.
