It has slid from winter to early spring here in the mountains with the rains coming and coming and…yeah, you get the idea. It’s the number one reason I love a covered porch. I can sit outside, smell the damp, green, growing things and not get wet.
In other news, Jojo is settling into the household a bit more. We’re still working on some behaviors that need adjusting, but Ace loves having a snuggle buddy. Bear is still trying to teach Jojo that he is the top dog in the house, but they’re sharing space without fighting. Finally.
Still dealing with the lingering exhaustion of not feeling well the past couple of weeks, but I am getting words down and the conclusion of Fate or Destiny is in sight. Then I have to get Rowan’s novel and Remington’s novella done before I dive into King and Queen to wrap up the Chess Club series.
I’ve also been reading and I simply devoured (on Kobo Plus) Mark Posey’s Sister Jacobine series of short stories. Hey, Mark - hurry up with the novel, because I really want more Sister J!
I’ve also been doing some small house projects that needed tending, like reframing a piece of art and clearing out a closet. Soon as the weather warms up, I can stain the deck and touch up the paint on the front door and frame. Then I’ll feel like more is actually finished with last year’s project.
As for the shift from Kindle Unlimited to Kobo Plus? I’m loving it! I can find a new series and put all of the books in that series in my library and binge read without having to go look for the next one on the store. I love that I can find a wider selection of authors and read some new-to-me authors as well as others I’ve enjoyed before.
Now, here’s a free book from Rene Webb that you should seriously check out.

And So It Begins Chapter Four - College Park, MD 2001
Jo ran a brush through her short cap of hair and tugged her sweater down. She looked a healthy thirty-something years old. Pretty good for her actual one hundred and eighty-five years of age, give or take a few months. She had a meeting with her team in about a half-hour, so there was still time for a cup of coffee and a few minutes to go over her notes.
Dr. Theophilus Wilder had died at the ripe old age of one hundred and eighty-two. There was a portrait of him, painted by Norman Rockwell that hung in the main hall of the Institute. The Network had left the Carlyle in the 1970’s and sold it to be turned into a museum, then purchased a row of townhouses in College Park, Maryland. One held her private home, and one was set up with offices for the Network, while the rest held classrooms, training facilities, and a few apartments for some of the instructors. A few years later, they purchased another block of properties and created housing for the trainees as well as more apartments for those that spent most of their time in travel for the Network.
As far as their neighbors were concerned, The Wilder Institute was a private boarding school, and as technology had advanced and people bothered less with what their neighbors were up to, Jo could breathe a little easier and not worry they were going to end up burned out by a horde of slavering fools.
“Ms. Wilder, they’re ready for you.”
Her latest assistant, Lisa, was a bright and energetic young woman from a hunter family. She’d come to train, and found her calling in organizing Jo’s hectic life.
“I’ll be right there, Lisa, thank you,” Jo replied. She sipped her coffee and added a couple of words to the page, then laid the pen down and looked out the window at the street below, cup cradled between her hands. Sometimes she just needed to stop and appreciate where and when she was. She took a moment to thank Dr. Wilder for making her his heir to such a wonderful life. She’d changed her name to Jolene Wilder about ten years ago, something she had done roughly every thirty or forty years, but with the way technology could be manipulated, she would be able to keep this name for a while. There were those in government in this time period who knew about supernaturals and helped smooth things over in regards to extended life spans and the need for clearances. She’d picked her last name to honor Dr. Wilder – and her first name in a moment of snark and whimsy, after the Dolly Parton song. As far as Jo was concerned, Dolly’s Jolene character was a badass and she liked the feeling of power the name gave her.
