Views, dogs, more words
I’m looking forward to cooler temps and fall leaves. The yard is healing as am I. Here’s a picture from earlier this week when it wasn’t raining. That bare space in the middle where you can see my neighbor’s house is where fire damage killed off the Rose of Sharon bushes.
Chess has found a new place to perch while I’m watching TV and making story notes. It’s on the back of the recliner where he can keep watch on the front door and any activity that may happen in the house.
Here’s a bit of what I’ve written for Rowan’s story. You first met her in Fate or Destiny, but this is a few years later.
“How the hell did I end up here?” Rowan thought to herself as she tried not to gag at the stench of rotting food in the dumpster in front of her.Pounding footsteps echoed in the alley behind the shops, the sound bouncing off of concrete and brick as her pursuers raced after her. It took every ounce of Rowan’s control to quiet her breathing and stay still in her hiding spot behind the overflowing dumpster.
Sure, she could use her magic to trip them or slam them into a wall and run away, but they were mundanes – humans with no magic and no knowledge of the supernatural world, so she really couldn’t. Not unless her life was in imminent danger.
That’s why she was hiding and waiting for them to go past. Then she could use magic to silence her steps and make herself blend in to her surroundings and get to safety.
This wasn’t even because of a case she was working as an agent of the Supernatural Intelligence Network. It was because she was a woman alone in a strange city who’d decided to have a meal at an outdoor table of a small restaurant and didn’t want company. The two men chasing Rowan had decided she was going to have their company no matter what she wanted.
You can get Fate or Destiny here. Preorder links for Rowan are slowly populating but you can find them here: Rowan

As I said last week, I’ve been working with the incredible Lizzie Dunlap to update the SIN covers and they’re here! I’m grateful we have an arrangement so I could get them done before they’re fully paid for, because this is a lot of covers. It’s Saturday evening and I’m still uploading the files to the shops, so you may see them when this goes out, or on Monday.

I'm glad you are taking the time to heal. Let your soul and the yard take as long as they need.
