I decided to read School For Good Mothers because of your mention. Oh, the discussion should be flowing! Now I’m rethinking the way I drive my grandsons (we skid around asteroids- potholes- with sound effects). I promise I check traffic first!
I get that. I’m giving nothing away, but hope you have time to read it. I’ve already passed the recommendation on to a few friends, so I have someone to share my many thoughts with.
The book club sounds like fun. Good for you! I’m not very much of a joiner, by nature, but I do end up talking to other moms when I’m doing kid things so there’s that. :) Have fun getting out there!
I don't have littles around anymore, so that connection of 'parent to parent' isn't something I have to use. And I'm several states away from where I was a mom of littles - so those connections are gone.
I'm not really a 'joiner' either - but I'm 60, I live in a very rural area, and if I want community, I need to go find it.
I hear you as I become more anxious and reclusive. I should follow your path. I am not this kind of person but here I am with my laptop and dog . I have got to join in the world other than take book to a coffee house and sit head down reading. That is being out and in at the same time! Good job kiddo
It's not easy to take that first step, but I've found myself more invigorated mentally just from the few interactions I've managed so far. Scary - but worth it!
I’m so glad you are getting out! It’s not an easy thing to do. Most of my local friends are my next door neighbors, so I didn’t go far to meet them. A couple of others I met in restaurants, when I butted into their lives, lol. As adults not in a workplace environment, how DO we meet people and make friends?
As I was going into a restaurant thirteen years ago, another person was coming in, looking like she’d pass out any moment. I stopped and grabbed her a chair, struck up a conversation. A long-term friendship slowly grew.
About ten years ago, I was dining alone in a restaurant with tables about one foot apart. Two young men were in a passionate discussion next to me, on a topic I had extensive knowledge about. They were trying to figure out where and how to get information. I rudely interrupted them with an offer of assistance and my business card. One called me and asked if I was serious. I ended up becoming his advisor for his college graduate program, and good friend in life. He’s still a friend, and has far surpassed my expectations in his work career.
Absolutely! I’d let you sit out here in the screen room away from the rest of the world and watch my critters entertain.
There are houses beside me, but open desert out back, so a feeling of wide open peacefulness most of the time. Watching roadrunners and quail and coyotes. So far, the roadrunners haven’t been outwitting the coyotes with products from ACME. 🤣

I haven't read it yet! I have until the 17th of the month :laughs:
I'm so deep in writing and panicking deadlines, I haven't had much time. We'll chat about it once I have read it, yeah?

I've got a handful of people in the state I love and care about, but they're still a drive. I, like you, find myself stuck at home far too often.

The book club sounds like it's right up your alley!
Next book is The School For Good Mothers by Jasmine Chan. This should be an interesting discussion.

I love that you got to mentor someone who became a friend! Too bad you're not closer, we could sit over a cup of coffee :grins:
